ZILLA ADAMS

Zilla Adams, an accomplished visual artist, soon to release her first Art Book publication. She works in a broad spectrum of media: painting in oils, watercolors and acrylics, also pastels, collages, mosaics, ceramics, etchings, printmaking and sculpture. She received her Bachelors Degree in Fine Art at the University of Texas (Austin), with a Minor in Art History. Her Graduate Studies abroad include: Renaissance Art History in nine European countries with the University of Texas, and Prehistoric Paleolithic Cave Art History in Southern France with Wisdom University, San Francisco, CA. She has also studied Tibetan art in Kathmandu, Nepal and Aboriginal art in Australia, with numerous pieces added to her collections.

Her additional studies include the University of Houston, Houston Museum of Fine Art School, Houston Art League, Hui Noeau Art School, Maui, Hawaii and the University of Hawaii.

Her work has been recognized in Texas, Florida, Hawaii and California. She has exhibited in numerous juried shows and exhibitions, including The Mitchner Gallery at the University of Texas Art Museum, The Austin Contemporary Visual Arts Association, The Forty Acres U. T. Faculty Building, The Elizabet Ney Art Museum, The Texas Fine Arts Association Citation Shows, The Huntington Gallery at the University of Texas, The Laguna Gloria Art Museum, and the Maui Fine Arts Museum, Hawaii.

Zilla has had six Solo Shows and has been represented by eight galleries in Texas and Hawaii. She was also an award-winning graphic designer for ten years, accepting two Folio Awards in New York. She was a member of the staff of TEXAS MONTHLY Magazine for 3 1/2 years and freelanced with numerous publishing houses, advertising agencies, etc. as an illustrator and book designer. One major client was the USA Olympic Committee. She was also the Director of the University of Texas Graphic Design Laboratory, designing books and publications for their Press, museums, and the Art, Music, and Drama departments.  She is presently showing at Galerie Spectra, the Artist of the Month Show, May 13, 2016 at Memorial City Mall, Houston, TX, 77024.  She also recently exhibited 3 paintings at the Earth Sky and Space Exhibition at NASA the Johnson Space Center, May 15th, 2016.  This was the first fine art exhibition ever held at NASA.

Zilla loves to travel and has visited 27 countries. She has lived in Mexico, Italy and Hawaii. She is now back home in Texas and presently resides in Katy. She is a member of Armando Rodriguez’s professional Art Studio in Houston and her projects include: surrealism, color theory, elements of quantum physics, cave art, aboriginal techniques and indigenous cultures. She loves being near family and old friends again.

She has taught art in public and private elementary schools, including the Austin and Katy ISDs and Lifedrawing in professional studios in Texas and Hawaii. She also worked at the oldest fine art gallery (The Village Gallery) in Hawaii for 25 years, and was manager for a decade. Her career began early when she sold her first painting at age fourteen and has spanned all facets of artistic endeavor. She is presently writing a book of her life’s work and organizing a large retrospective exhibition. Zilla says: “Art has been my life’s quest and my great joy and I’ll probably still be painting after I leave the planet”.
